What 'DOES' Work With Gastroparesis?
Mood:  quizzical
Now Playing: Day 703-The Final Road To Survival

It was the dreaded day! Another day dealing with my teeth. Another dentist appointment. UGGG! So far this year I am on 2 dental repairs due to my GP and darn Hell-In-A-Jug treatments literally eating away at the enamel. Thank goodness though that they were able to work me in later this afternoon so that gave me time to catch up on some much needed rest.

2pm and this gal was up with enough time to do the routine wake up chores then head out the door. Always expect the unexpected with GP! Of course instead of just two teeth we quickly found out I have three that need to be repaired. I also have another one on the left side but my dentist understands even I need a break! I think he needs one too because its been nonstop the past two years since going back on treatment. Now that the treatments are weekly it just makes my dental problems ten times worse. I jokingly told him today, "You know you are special because I see you more than I do all my other specialists combined!" Hahahaha! We even have exchanging of jokes while waiting for my mouth to get numb. Yes, hes almost becoming like family now, imagine that! Hahahaha! So after two hours and three teeth later I can now take a short break for a few weeks before heading back so he can repair another tooth and anything else that might be going on. Thank goodness for a break!

We didn't get home until 6pm and not only was my teeth sore but so was my back. Since having spinal problems sitting in the dental chair took its toll. Walking the dogs helped loosen up my back a bit but of course I am sure I will be paying for it later. I have continued the regiment of taking five different types of liquid vitamins and even added two teaspoons daily of a high fruit complex. Honestly to me nothing has yet to work but I keep trying in hopes of one day I can finally see some sort of change. At least its easy to tell what part of the refrigerator is mine. Hahahahaha! I only take up the lower shelf which is enough room for all my liquids. Its literally going to be a Slimfast way of life whether I like it or not. Gatorade has been very hard to consume on a daily basis although I know its important seeing I lose so many electrolytes during my weekly treatments. Gatorade makes me severely nauseated and now since Slimfast changed their formulation I have to literally water down half the bottle. What does work with Gastroparesis I guess is the question?..

My favorite program "The Celebrity Apprentice" was on yesterday and since I already missed one episode I now make sure my DVR player is set. A few of the Gastroparesis Awareness Campaign celebrity supporters are on this season-Dee Snider & Michael Andretti. Dee Snider has been doing a great job staying under the radar although sadly Michael Andretti just got fired off the show two weeks ago. My favorite is Lou Ferrigno! While living with a disability and being bluntly discriminated he still continues to fight on the show proving he is just as capable of doing a great job as anyone else. Yesterdays episode was heart wrenching and ended with him actually winning as the head Project Manager. Just goes to show you should never under estimate the power of the mind and the will to achieve by beating the odds and proving others wrong. Amen!

Celebrating My GP Anniversary :)
Mood:  special
Now Playing: Day 702-The Final Road To Survival

One thing I always keep in mind each and every day are the words from my Gastroenterologist during my last visit.

"There is no turning back with your Idiopathic Gastroparesis. It will continue progressing. The symptoms will continue getting worse. We can not cure you. There is no medication. Have you accepted this?"

As I woke up today March 18th, 2012 I remembered those exact words and looked at my cell phone calender alarm which read: "MY 8 YEAR GP ANNIVERSARY. KEEP ON! KEEPING ON!" Wow! I made it! I really did make it another year! I have now officially not only beat the initial 4 year projected survival rate for my severe Idiopathic Gastroparesis but I have also doubled it. To some celebrating a terminal condition might sound odd but that's only because those same individuals haven't ever cheated death or know what its like to truly suffer. Amen.

So much has happened over the past 8 years that I don't have enough cyber paper to type it all out on. Hahahahaha! It's been like an old western movie, "The Good. The Bad & The Ugly." Looking back I even sometimes question how the heck I did it?..I could line up about 10 people right now and tell you first hand they sure could never, ever handle what I do on a daily basis as well many other GP'ers. They would had already given up. If you think having the stomach virus or the flu is bad just imagine having those symptoms and more x100 as the condition starts to slowly take over your other organs. Imagine having your life and livelihood instantly taken away and you can't do a darn thing about it. You can only do one thing which is, "ACCEPT IT!"

I got some wonderful cards, emails and text messages this weekend from fellow GP friends and a few others here in the city. Those who I 'thought' would remember sadly didn't but when people try to blame a condition for their lack of heart and compassion its only expected. I have lost and I have gained since being diagnosed with Idiopathic Gastroparesis 8 years ago. I have lost family. I have lost friends. I have lost a spouse. What I have not lost is my pride and will to live. That is something my GP will never, ever take away from me. Today I celebrate 8 years of LIFE. Thank you everyone for your supportive and loving words of encouragement today and through out the years. Gastroparesis has indeed opened my eyes to the world and what it means to care. Kindness comes from those you least expect but in the end you realize who was there for you all along.

Xoxoxoox, Kimberly

"So as you continue your journey remember what I know is true. You'll once again rise on the wings of your soul more graceful, more joyful, more YOU."

Kimberly,

You have done the unthinkable for eight years fighting for your life. You are by far the most inspiring and courageous person I have ever met. Every day you do what a lot of people don't do. You fight and never give up. You not only inspire people to keep on, keeping on but you inspired me to be a better person! You have impacted my life and so many thousands of others around the world that today I wanted to say, "Thank you."

My dear friend,

Good morning and congratulations on persevering and never giving up or giving in by being so strong that I only know you could do. Your friendship over the years has meant so much to me and I don't know what I would do without your humor and uplifting spirit. Always remember you have family all around the world. My door is always open to you and may your beautiful soul always shine. Happy 8th GP Anniversary!

Let's Make It A GP-FREE St. Patrick's Day!
Mood:  lucky
Now Playing: Day 701-The Final Road To Survival

It's St. Patrick's & luck of the Irish day!

I woke up with it blazing hot in the living room since the temperatures are still rising outside with a high expected in the low 80's today. Did we ever before celebrate St. Paddy's day in the summer? Yep, we are today! The living room is where I sleep on my couchbed and unfortunately although the direct afternoon sunlight might be great heat for the wintertime it sure isn't for the spring or summer. I had the thermostat set down to 68 degrees and it was cold everywhere else in the house minus the living room. I even had a huge floor fan aimed towards the couches but it was still hot, hot, hot! This darn stomach rash doesn't help nor the upper achy pain either but I guess sooner or later I will learn like everything else with GP which is to just get used to it. At least now I know to gather up all the ice packs in the freezer, wrap them up in towels and place them on the front and back of my abdominal area. It works somewhat to help cool me off a bit but patience is necessary!

Once I finally got some GP relief it wasn't till 3pm by the time I woke up. The animal gang were ready to run in the backyard and take out some of their energy. I didn't see any leprechauns outside nor a pot of gold but I am still alive and that to me is priceless! Amen! I am determined to keep up with the holiday tradition and head out later to celebrate the lucky day. Maybe as well Lady Luck might be on our side since my friend had a few extra greens$$ and wanted to head out to the casino. It takes a bit now to get my body motivated so I wasn't sure by the time I took a shower and got dressed if I would have enough energy to spare for this evening but you only live once and I wasn't going to dare pass up celebrating St. Patrick's day!

By the time we did some chores around the house and took the dogs for a short walk it was already 7:30pm so we got our green on and headed out the door. Since the weather was unusually warm it seemed everyone came out of their winter hiding spots and decided to celebrate the Irish holiday. Not only were the roads crowded but so was the casino. WOW! It was packed!! There were lots of people dressed in green from head to toe and some even dressed as leprechauns, hahahaha! We had lots of fun and although we didn't win a pot of gold it was still nice to get out and celebrate St. Patrick's day! I would be lying if I didn't say it sure felt nice to get home and rest. The fur kids had on their holiday festive attire and greeted us at the front door. They are so used to their Mom being home that now they wait on the couch looking out the window to greet me once I return. That is true dedication! The rest of the evening I decided to have a movie night and RELAX....Cheers to having a great St. Paddy's Day!

Luck Is In The Air!
Mood:  happy
Now Playing: Day 700-The Final Road To Survival

If this St. Patrick's day weekend turns out anywhere close to the shade of green like the summer-like grass quickly growing outside (due to this crazy weather) then its going to be one LUCKY WEEKEND!

Sadly we found out I am once again building a resistance to my weekly treatments. The reason I had to stop treatments a year ago was due to the exact same reason. Since I am taking the name brand medication the pharmacist suggested I go back to trying the generic. The rash starts within 12 hours after consuming the last glass and goes into two days. I assume that is because it takes my paralyzed organs a few days to even start processing the liquid nightmare. It feels like a horrible sunburn with the chills and sweats. This time the rash broke out on my neck, back and arms. Its happened the past two treatments so now I must be very careful but thankfully the rash did ease up today. Although what I must endure on a weekly basis is not normal its still a must with my unique medical condition.

We are still determined to go out and celebrate the luck of the Irish this weekend but it wasn't going to happen today. There was just way too much going on and the day seemed to fly by! The weather is still bringing us summer like temperatures but it will quickly be coming to an end by later next week. This gal will be more than happy. At least I got a sneak peak of how my body is going to react this spring and summer. Two words: Not good. Better keep my boxing gloves close by for a long fight over the next six months. WHEW!

Later this evening I got some wonderful news regarding the Greyhounds and I am hoping to share it with everyone very, very soon! Indeed it is St. Patrick's Day weekend and may the luck of the Irish also be with you. May it be GP-FREE! CHEERS!

Is It Winter? Spring Or Summer?
Mood:  lazy
Now Playing: Day 699-The Final Road To Survival

I slept horrible! Between the treatment getting stuck inside my intestines, Littleblue bouncing back and forth between the couch and the floor, sweats and the monsoon rain it was a sleepless night. The only positive thing was since the storms produced some serious high winds, hail and lightening most lost their electric. This means my dentist appointment will once again need to be moved to next week. Good news for me because I only got around four hours of sleep and wasn't physically in any way, shape or form capable of dealing with dental work today. Its already been such a hectic week that it might be better to wait things out a few days. I don't have any pain but that's only because of the extensive nerve damage from my GP.

Its not normal to have your heat running one day then your air conditioner turned on the next day but welcome to destroying our ozone layer. Thanks folks! Now we are having record heat while it is still winter. Its not even officially spring yet as the temperatures will continue into the low 80's over the next four days. I already had the sweats last night from treatment so around 4am I got up and turned the air conditioner on. Thank goodness I am not sick 'YET' but I won't push my luck by knocking on any wood either!

My friend has a new project on their hands since buying a large piece of gym equipment last week. The equipment just arrived Monday and since hes being putting it together solo we both realized the directions that say it takes 2-3 hours has now turned into 4-5 hours. Oreo and Pumpkin have been busy playing Supervisor but today its been more like sleeping on the job. Hahahaha! Hes hoping to have it finished by this weekend so my GP room can be back to normal. Gym memberships anymore are so expensive with all sorts of hidden fees that its smarter to buy your own equipment. Its also nice to work out in the privacy of your own home and be able to watch what you like on TV. I sure do miss working out but mostly connecting with people-society. With my spine a mess and dealing with numerous GP problems the best I can do is walk. Its nice having the small park right in front of the house but looks like the rest of the week I might have to just settle for my treadmill. That is if I can catch a break with the Hell-In-A-Jug side effects. By that time I might be due for my next treatment. GEES!!

St. Patrick's day is this weekend and I always try to celebrate. The past four years I had to wait and play things by ear and this time will be no exception. Hopefully by Saturday the rain will ease up a bit and so will my GP-Drano treatment. If not Littleblue promises to be my couchbuddy for the weekend. Hee,hee,hee,hee,hee...

Yep! It's That Day Again...
Mood:  don't ask
Now Playing: Day 698-The Final Road To Survival

Here we go again and again and again...

Seems I am far from alone. Many others who have to endure the wicked treatments in order to not become toxic are as well feeling my pain this evening. UGGGG! I like to literally call this treatment, "Treatment From Hell!" Why you may ask? Well because here I am at 11pm and it still has yet to work. My intestines are a mess and seems the past month I am having more problems getting treatment to work that it continues to go into the next 24 hours.

I don't do well thinking about what I am consuming with the toxic poison so I tend to pour my heart and soul into other important issues in life. Helping the Greyhounds is still a work in progress and I am hoping to soon have a positive outcome to this sad story. All in good timing!

My friend has also gotten involved stepping in to speak on my behalf regarding new legislation to put a stop to Ohio Dog Auctions which will stop Puppy Mills. Sad when people lose the meaning of life and treat animals cruelly.

http://www.banohiodogauctions.com/Legislation.html

These are some of the same individuals who lost their brains to the evil eye of the almighty dollar. I believe in the ole saying, "An eye for an eye. A tooth for a tooth." If the bill passes in Ohio it will make it illegal to auction and sell dogs which will put a quick stop to those just like the individuals breeding Greyhounds for money and not providing food, water or proper shelter. Call me one of those individuals that won't give up without a fight! By being AWARE has allowed me to CARE. I might run the Gastroparesis Awareness Campaign but that doesn't mean I don't have other passions in life saving lives, even the furry kind! When you are sick and dying who is always there for you by your side? I know who is for me.

Well this is a short but sweet blog for today. I have Drano still waiting for me and a very long evening ahead! Maybe I need to toss back a few of my friends vitamins after finishing up treatment. Appropriate name for them isn't it?

"ALIVE." Hahahahaha! Mere coincidence? I think not!

Connecting Together With GP Patients :)
Mood:  celebratory
Now Playing: Day 697-The Final Road To Survival

Wow! what a very long and busy day! Might be a good thing keeping my mind busy and off of treatment that must be delayed due to extremely low blood sugar.

Because the weekly treatments are highly dangerous any problems that arise I must hold treatment off for 24 hours because its not worth risking my life. Not that enduring the Hell-In-A-Jug isn't risking your life to begin with...I did my best getting my blood sugar levels up to a safe range but it took until this early evening and by that time forget it! Way too late and I didn't feel like being up all night. The crazy warm weather isn't helping matters. I already miss my snow. Sigh...The flowers are all blooming and the way things are going the grass might need to be cut by next weekend. YIKES! Soon everyone will have their pools open. This might be by next weekend so get your rafts out! I'll bring the Drano. Hahahahaha! Dranotini's for everyone!....

APPLAUDING Those Who Make A Difference!
Mood:  happy
Now Playing: Day 696-The Final Road To Survival

Have you found your passion in life? I did a year into my Idiopathic Gastroparesis diagnosis. It was then I started the "Gastroparesis Awareness Campaign" and the online support family called the "GastroparesisPatientsGroup." This coming weekend I will be celebrating my 8 year fight for life. My Gastroenterologist said it will be 9 years but we found out it will actually be 8 years after finding my original GP diagnosis and GES test results last week. Trust me it feels three times longer than that! WHEW!

Fur kids will always have a huge place in my heart. My gang mean the world to me! They have been loyal and dedicated to their Mom through the worst of the worst being sick. I have also come across a few others who have found their passion in life and who also have a huge place in their hearts for the wildlife and fur kids. I didn't realize there are beloved pets who work hard to help those with disabilities and seizures at the organization 4 Paws for Ability. http://www.4pawsforability.org/

HOW NEAT IS THAT?!!

Pilots N Paws http://pilotsnpaws.org/ actually flies all over the great USA to save the lives of animals. They also help rescue fur kids who need help finding a home or are in need of being rescued by the cruel hearts of humans. This month they helped grant a wish to a terminally ill patient by flying Bailey to be by his side during his final days.

WHAT A REWARDING JOB!!!

Seems anymore in life fur kids are more quickly to be there for others than any human being. Sad isn't it? Been there. Seen it. Continue to deal with it to this day.

XOXOXOX TO THE FURRY ANGELS WHO NEVER LET OTHERS DOWN. AMEN!

Drano VS Drano
Mood:  d'oh
Now Playing: Day 695-The Final Road To Survival

This is a great comparison!

Hmmmm...Which is better? Drano or Drano? Seems they both claim to stop pesty clogs and work the first time around. Both are toxic. The only difference is the size. One comes in a jug that looks like you can lift weights with it while the other is in a nifty average size container. Hahahahaha! I believe the Hell-In-A-Jug aka Drano would do a far better job clearing clogged pipes than the store brand and heck! you can even toss back a few glasses or two or three or four or why not the entire jug yourself?!! Wow! Drano you can use and consume! What a deal! NOT.

Two days left until my next treatment and I am dreading it! More so this time around because allergy season is in full swing due to this crazy weather. Snow one day then flowers blooming the next. I had to start back on my steroid nasal spray because my head is already stuffed up which brings on my seizure issues and takes them to an entirely different level. Bring on the boat because its almost that time again to be sent out to sea as my balance issues fire right back up again. I might as well just go into hiding for the next six months. I used to enjoy spring and summertime but this was before of course I got sick. Forget telling you the last time I went on vacation and if I ever plan on taking one again it won't be until early fall and winter when my head issues can take a break. Gees!

Oreo has reallllllllly been enjoying his new huge bed! This afternoon it appeared he had a new sleeping buddy Cuddles kitty who found an open spot on his bed. Oreo tolerates the kitty gang although I won't say they are his bestest buddies, hahahahaha! At least he is learning to share and that's all that matters.

This evening I was able to finish up my important forms and changes regarding my will and medical power of attorney. I can't believe how many signatures are required. Its like signing your life away. WAIT! I guess you really are but to others! Hahahahaha! OK. I found it funny. Hee,hee,hee,hee...My friend even joined in as he made changes of his own. Just part of life and we all go through it one day or another. One dreaded part out of the way for this gal and hopefully I can say the same thing for next week after my "I lost track" of dental repairs. Amen!

I am still trying to adjust with the recent time change. Spring ahead and fall back. More like spring ahead and stay asleep! My body is all confused and so are the fur gang. When its time to sleep they are all out like a light. Hopefully that makes two of us tonight for some and early morning for others-myself. Well you know how the VAMPIREEEEEE schedule works thanks to good ole GP. ZZZZZZZZZZ.......

When To Play The Karma Card...
Mood:  on fire
Now Playing: Day 694-The Final Road To Survival

Is it me or when you are sick and handed the terminal card you become increasingly more AWARE of your surroundings?

This could include at home, work, out in public or better yet-on the road! I can personally answer that question with one word. YES. I know some are tired of me saying this but sorry folks I have to say it again. Since I have been sick I have seen the best and the worst in people. Mostly the absolute worst!

Maybe I am more aware of my surroundings because I want to take in everything or maybe its because my body is just wanting to focus on something else besides being sick on a daily basis? Maybe its just because the world has way far too many idiots walking around in plain view? Hmmmm...I agree with the latter of them!

Since the past few weeks haven't been too kind I have been doing my best to still get out and enjoy life a bit. This included a few rides up north. The outlet mall adventure was a short lived one seeing the shops were ridiculously overpriced and nothing caught my attention. My friend was ready to buy some sweaters to stock up for next year and a pair of hiking shoes but even they couldn't even find anything. It was a very brief trip to the outlet mall but something caught my attention on the way up and back. Are you the type of person who is fully AWARE of their surroundings which include looking around on the open road while driving? Are you instead the person who keeps their focus directly on the car in front of them fixated the entire way? Not this gal. I have been driving and traveling for years during my career. This was before Gastroparesis took over my life. I always kept my eyes wide open looking in front of me, behind me, to the left and to the right of the road. Let's just say those recent trips up north and the one to the outlet mall opened my eyes to another group of idiots who roam the great USA.

I like to call those types of individuals the "Extreme Cruelests."

On the way up to the outlet mall me and my friend were taking photos of all the beautiful open farm fields. Ahhhh....What a great and relaxing drive until I just happened to look around and see what I first thought was a pig farm with dog houses. Yes! My thoughts exactly so I had to do a double take and instead realized they were puppies and dogs out in the open field with limited shelter on a night where the temperatures dipped into the low 20's. If you think that is cold enough for you just imagine these poor pups out in the extreme temperatures! Boy did that strike a nerve in me! Hey! At least I do have a few working nerves left in this body! Hahahaha! I asked my friend if they saw what looked like a prison camp in the middle of an open field and they replied, "Yes but I sure hope its not what I think it is."

A puppy mill.

So a day passes and of course when something bothers me it tends to not let up... If I have a gut instinct on something I usually get more than a few signs. I not only got the signs but acted on them. It has been bothering me what I saw on the open road. As I was being AWARE of my surroundings I became AWARE of some heartless people and cruel conditions. I became AWARE of individuals once again who choose money over life. Maybe its because my animal gang have been the more loyal and dedicated to me over the past eight years than any human being has so I have a huge heart for the wildlife. Maybe its because some of us in life were meant to be great human kid parents while others like myself were destined to always be great fur kid Mothers. I have tried time and time again to get those images out of my mind but I just can't. It bothers me right down to the core! So instead of letting it sit in my brain and brew I decided to quickly do something about it. What I have found out the past 48 hours is sickening!

Seems what I thought were just a few puppies in an open field being exposed to extreme cold and limited shelter (if any to start with) actually are Greyhounds. Call it a Greyhound puppy mill to be politically correct. WOW! Its one thing to be extremely cruel by not providing adequate shelter but upon further investigation it appears these individuals are breeding Greyhound pups and having them live in an open field next to all places but a MAIN INTERSTATE! First call it not providing shelter as a breeder and second call it others looking into the situation and not finding even a license to breed in the first place. Where are these Greyhound pups being sent is the real question? Some have suggested they are being shipped out of the country while others believe something else in going on behind the scenes.

Can we say DUMB?!! Chalk up a few more to add to the list of IDIOTS who live in the great USA...I can't get too much into further detail but those who are also huge animal lovers and fans of the wildlife trust me by saying, "This gal won't stop until once again the fat lady sings." That won't be anytime soon either! Hahahahaha!

I guess one could say while you are still leaving here on earth the good Lord uses those for various reasons in order to help others-even the fur kid kind. Mine must be to provide wings over those who can't speak for themselves. If that holds true then I sure hope when my time comes Crystalblue is waiting for me next to the golden gates of Heaven.

This story to continue...Don't worry this gal never gives up without a fight and that doesn't always just include medical reasons either. Sometimes its up to others to make a difference by not standing back but standing up. Amen.

I attached some photos of families who have adopted Greyhounds from a Greyhound adoption agency here in my home town. Just look at these adorable faces and how much love they bring to others. My ultimate goal is to have these Greyhound pups rescued and also given the chance to be loved.

To the individuals who are doing the unthinkable I believe this photo says it all!
